Memorial Shadow Box Materials Guide
Here's exactly what to buy for a memorial shadow box:
Cardstock
Use 250-350 gsm cardstock. Thinner paper won't hold depth; thicker cardstock is hard to cut. White, ivory, black, and midnight blue work best for memorials.
Foam Tape
3mm or 5mm foam tape between layers. Too thin and you won't see depth; too thick and the box looks bulky. One roll does 5-10 shadow boxes.
Backing Board
A4 or 12x12 inch backing board, or a deep picture frame without glass. The shadow box casts a real shadow on the wall behind it - that's what makes it look 3D.
Tools
- Cricut or Silhouette cutting machine
- Scissors for trimming foam tape
- Ruler for alignment
Estimated cost: Under $20 for materials that make 5-10 shadow boxes.
