How to Make a Memorial Shadow Box in an Evening

Step-by-step guide to cutting and assembling a 7-layer memorial shadow box with an editable name plate.

How to Make a Memorial Shadow Box in an Evening

A memorial shadow box is a keepsake you can cut and assemble in one evening. Here's exactly how to do it.

What you need

Step 1: Open the front layer

Open the front layer SVG file in Cricut Design Space. Double-click the placeholder text in the center and type your beloved's name and the years that bracket their life.

Step 2: Cut all layers

Cut each layer in size order - largest to smallest. The voids in the upper layers will reveal the layers beneath when stacked.

Step 3: Stack with foam tape

Use foam tape between layers, not wet glue. Foam sets a consistent gap, so the depth stays even and the box looks deliberate, not accidental.

Step 4: Mount and display

Mount the stack on a backing board and hang it on your wall, or place it on a shelf where you'll see it every day.

No wet glue, no curing time, no hardware beyond a backing board. The whole thing takes about an evening.
